WORKLOAD FORMULA METHOD
WORKLOAD FORMULA
The Workload Formula uses information from the Resource Assessment Study
(RAS) to calculate funding need. The RAS model uses case filings,
caseweights, and work year value to determine the total number of minutes
needed to address a court’s case-related activities. These total minutes are
then converted to full-time equivalents (FTEs), or each court’s FTE Need.
Finally, the FTE Need is converted to dollars by multiplying it by an average
salary and benefit amount. This calculation results in each court’s Workload
Formula Funding Need.
The Workload Formula and RAS are designed to recognize the differences
between varying court sizes. Certain types of revenues are taken into
consideration and are used as measurements against the funding need of a
court.
Based on the FY 2021-22 Workload Formula, the Superior Court of Orange 3,625
County’s funding need is $206.1 million. The amount that will be received is a
partial amount of $161.0 million or 78.1% of the total calculated funding need.
