Santa Ana- Chief Justice Ronald M. George has appointed Presiding Judge Nancy Wieben Stock of the Superior Court of Orange County as Chair of the Trial Court Presiding Judges Advisory Committee. The committee is comprised of 58 presiding judges, representing each county of the State, and is tasked with making recommendations to the Judicial Council of California on issues affecting the trial courts. The appointment also places Judge Stock on the Judicial Council as an advisory member. The Judicial Council, established in 1926, makes improvements to the statewide court administration by providing policy direction to the courts and providing recommendations to the governor and legislature.
Judge Stock was elected Presiding Judge of the Orange County Superior Court in June 2005 and began her two-year term in January 2006. She has been active in organizations designed to improve the bench and bar, which include the statewide Bench-Bar Coalition. She also has served as a member of the Judicial Council of California’s Advisory Committee on Family and Juvenile Law and serves as co-chair of the Judicial Council’s Model Jury Summons Work Group.
Judge Stock was appointed to the Superior Court in 1990 by Governor George Deukmejian. Before becoming a judge, she was a federal prosecutor for 12 years, from 1978 to 1990, serving in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California. There, she served as the First Assistant to the Chief of the Criminal Division, Chief of Major Crimes and Chief of the Santa Ana Branch.
Judge Stock received a B.A. in Political Science from the University of California Davis in 1973. She received her J.D. from the University of California Davis, Martin Luther King, Jr. School of Law in 1976.
