Orange County Superior Court Seeks Grand Jury Applicants

Santa Ana, CA – Orange County residents who want to make a difference in their community are encouraged to submit an application to serve on the 2013/14 Orange County Grand Jury, announced Assistant Presiding Judge Glenda Sanders, Chair of Grand Jury Recruitment/Selection Committee. The one-year term begins July 1, 2013.

If you have received a notice such as the following one, you may want to report it to your local law enforcement agency. The Court is not involved in distributing, filing, or hearing any cases associated with this.
Superior Court Announces a Pilot Project for Electronic Filing and Service of Documents for Civil Cases

Santa Ana – On September 14, 2012, Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. signed into law Assembly Bill 2073 which authorizes Orange County Superior Court to establish a pilot project that will require documents filed in all limited, unlimited, and complex civil actions on or after January 1, 2013, to be filed electronically. This pilot project will commence on January 1, 2013.
Superior Court of Orange County Installs Video Relay Service for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Court Visitors

Santa Ana, CA – The Superior Court of Orange County announces the installation of its first-ever Video Relay Service (VRS) kiosk at the Central Justice Center, 700 Civic Center Drive West, Santa Ana. VRS is a free videophone relay service that provides technology for deaf and hard-of-hearing persons to communicate with hearing persons in real time using American Sign Language interpreters. The goal of VRS is to provide telecommunications access for deaf, hard-of-hearing, and speech-disabled individuals in a manner functionally equivalent to that provided to traditional voice telephone users.

Santa Ana – Judges of the Orange County Superior Court unanimously elected Hon. Glenda Sanders as Assistant Presiding Judge at an election held today, August 27, 2012, announced Presiding Judge Thomas J. Borris. A special election was called to fill the position previously held by Judge David A. Thompson who was appointed to the California Court of Appeal, Fourth District, Division Three, by Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. Judge Sanders’ term as Assistant Presiding Judge is from August 28 to December 31, 2012.

Court Awarded Funding to Educate Teens About the Dangers of Drinking and Distracted Driving

The Superior Court in Orange County has been awarded a grant for a program aimed at teaching youth the dangers of drinking and distracted driving. The $20,000 grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, will fund 18 presentations of the "Choices and Consequences" program to high school students on campuses throughout the County.

It used to be you had to drive to the courthouse and wait in line at the clerk's office to schedule a traffic or minor offense hearing. This is no longer necessary with the court's new automated hearing reservation system. Now you can simply schedule an appointment online at the Superior Court website: www.occourts.org or by phone at 877-872-2122. This saves litigants a trip to the courthouse and the time waiting in line.

By simply clicking on the case link, attorneys can view all aspects of the case including defendant demographics, filings, hearing information, minutes, and, if convicted, sentencing information.

A Court Program to Handle Driving Under the Influence Expands to Westminster

The DUI Court program to reduce recidivism and combat the problems associated with individuals who drive under the influence (DUI) expanded to a fourth site, at the West Justice Center of the Orange County Superior Court, on October 1, 2009. A New Court to Help "At Risk" Girls In Juvenile Dependency Court

After a year of planning, a program to address the special needs of at risk girls, ages 12-17, will begin October 2nd. Approximately 30 girls from the juvenile dependency court have been selected to be the first participants in the new Girls Court program. Modeled from the successful collaborative court program, Girls Court will feature a dedicated judicial officer, court staff, and county team.

All attorneys who are interested in applying to serve as a temporary judge for the next three-year term (July 2010 to June 2013), including those who currently serve, must complete and submit the application no later than December 31, 2009.

The Superior Court of Orange County will be closed the third Wednesday of each month beginning September 16, 2009, through June 16, 2010. The California Judicial Council approved the unprecedented one-day-a-month closures for all state courts due to California’s fiscal crisis and the Legislature's reduced state funding to the courts.

The new center is located on the first floor of the West Justice Center, 8141 13th Street. SUPERIOR COURT ANNOUNCES NEW TRAFFIC SCHOOL PROVIDER

Beginning August 1, 2009, traffic violators in Orange County who qualify for traffic school will have the option of attending any DMV-approved classroom traffic school or any court-approved online traffic school. Traffic school will no longer be offered at court locations.
MONTHLY COURT CLOSURE DAY

Beginning August 19, 2009, the Orange County Superior Court will close to the public on the third Wednesday of every month. These closures of the Court are due to the reduction in funding for the California court system caused by the present budget crisis. Matters already calendared for hearing on a scheduled court closure day will be re-scheduled and the parties noticed of the new date. The closures will continue through the fiscal year of 2009-2010.

New Calendaring System for Felony Cases

Court Call Center Scheduled to Open November 26

A new Call Center to help the public get important Court information will open November 26, 2007. Eight specially trained Court employees will staff the Call Center daily from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Initially, the Call Center will provide information for the Central Justice Center in Santa Ana and the North Justice Center in Fullerton.
