Hours
Juror hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm unless otherwise informed by court personnel. Please plan to stay the entire day. On occasions, jurors may be required to remain available in the Jury Assembly Room after 5:00 pm. We suggest jurors bring reading materials or small projects to pass the time while awaiting assignment to a courtroom.
Lunch/Breaks
Jurors have at least an hour for lunch. The cafeteria is located on the 3rd Floor and there are several eating establishments within easy walking distance. Jurors may also bring their lunch, which may be refrigerated and re-heated in the Jury Assembly Room. Just ask a Jury staff. Breaks are announced throughout the day.
Facilities
Restrooms and pay phones are located in the Jury Assembly Room. The courthouse is a non-smoking facility. An ATM is located in the courthouse lobby. Problems with the Jury Assembly Room facilities should be reported to Jury staff; issues with other court facilities should be reported to Sheriff personnel in the courtroom or at the Security Desk on the 1st Floor. In the event of an emergency (fire, earthquake, etc.), staff will instruct jurors on what to do and whether it is necessary to evacuate the Jury Assembly Room. If assigned to a courtroom, please follow the Sheriff’s instructions. The Central Justice Center is equipped with airport style weapon screening. All items including knives, guns, chemical sprays, scissors, knitting needles, eating utensils, or any item(s) deemed dangerous by the Sheriff’s Department will be confiscated.
Term of Service
The Court's term of service is one-day or one-trial. At the conclusion of the initial day of service, jurors not sworn to serve on a trial and not ordered to return for a second or subsequent days of jury selection will have completed their jury service for a minimum of one year.
Parking
The juror parking structure is located at 1020 Civic Center Drive between Flower and Boyd Way, two blocks west of the Courthouse. This is the only parking lot that will accept the Court’s validation. If you use any other lot, you will be charged for parking. We validate parking tickets between 11:30 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. in the Jury Assembly Room. After 5:00 p.m., please see Security Desk for validation of parking tickets. Jurors requiring special parking accommodations (parking for individuals with disabilities or oversized vehicles) should notify Jury staff.
Proof of Service
A Certificate of Jury Service form will be available in the Jury Assembly Room at the end of the day. If on a trial, the Sheriff personnel in the courtroom will provide jurors with a certificate.
Fees
Jurors are not compensated for the first day of service. Jurors will be paid $15.00 a day and 34 cents a mile from their home to the courthouse (one-way) beginning the second day of service.
