Hours
Juror hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. unless otherwise informed by court personnel. Please plan to stay the entire day. On occasion, jurors may be required to remain available in the Jury Assembly Room after 5:00 p.m. We suggest jurors bring reading materials or small projects to pass the time while awaiting assignment to a courtroom.
Lunch/Breaks
Jurors remaining in the Jury Assembly Room will have at least an hour for lunch. The Assembly Room is open for jurors’ use during lunch. There is no cafeteria located on the premises; however, there are several eating establishments within easy walking or driving distance. Vending machines are available in the Jury Assembly Room.
Facilities
Public restrooms and pay phones are located outside the Jury Assembly Room. The courthouse is a non-smoking facility. Smoking is permitted outside. Problems with the Jury Assembly Room facilities should be reported to Jury staff; issues with other court facilities should be reported to Sheriff personnel in the courtroom. In the event of an emergency (fire, earthquake, etc.), staff will instruct jurors on what to do and whether it is necessary to evacuate the Jury Assembly Room. If assigned to a courtroom, please follow the Sheriff’s instructions. The Harbor Justice Center is equipped with airport style weapon screening. All items including knives, guns, chemical sprays, scissors, knitting needles, eating utensils, or any item(s) deemed dangerous by the Sheriff's Department will be confiscated.
Term of Service
The Court's term of service is one-day or one-trial. At the conclusion of the initial day of service, jurors not sworn to serve on a trial and not ordered to return for a second or subsequent days of jury selection will have completed their jury service for a minimum of one year.
Parking
Free parking is provided for jurors at the on-site courthouse parking lot. Please do not park in any space marked “reserved” or “permit”. Parking for individuals with disabilities is located along the front of the building at the main and east entrance.
In the event space is not available in the courthouse lot, additional free parking is available at 4321 Jamboree on the Conexant (JAZZ) property, just south of the courthouse. From the courthouse parking, turn left onto Birch. Go to the signal and turn right onto Jamboree. Turn right at the second driveway and go straight towards the Jazz Building and turn left into the parking. Park in the first section where the sign reads "Permit Parking Only". Parking permits are not required for jurors.
Proof of Service
A Certificate of Jury Service form will be available in the Jury Assembly Room at the end of the day. If on a trial, the Sheriff personnel in the courtroom will provide you with a certificate.
Fees
Jurors are not compensated for the first day of service. Jurors will be paid $15.00 a day and 34 cents a mile from their home to the courthouse (one-way) beginning the second day of service.
