Office of the Family Law Facilitator
The Orange County Office of the Family Law Facilitator currently assists with the following child support issues in a classroom setting only:
- Answer to Governmental Action filed by the Department of Child Support Services;
- Motions to Dismiss Governmental Actions;
- Motions to Vacate Governmental Judgments;
- Motion for Review of License Denials;
- Order to Show Cause regarding Modification of Child Support;
- Order to Show Cause or Motions to Determine Arrears;
- Order to Show Cause regarding Medical and Dental Reimbursement;
- Responsive Pleadings to Governmental Motion for Judgment;
- Responsive Pleadings to a 10-Day Wage Assignment (Garnishments);
- Run DissomasterTM or X-SpouseTM program for self represented persons;
- Preparation of Income and Expense Declarations;
- Provide referrals to outside resources for services we do not provide;
- Preparation of Fee Waiver;
- Referrals to low cost attorneys, legal aid and low cost legal clinics;
WE DO NOT OFFER INDIVIDUALIZED SERVICES OR PRIVATE APPOINTMENTS.
Although we provide self-help packets for other services, including divorces, legal separation, custody, visitation, etc. WE DO NOT provide assistance on the following matters:
- Divorce, Nullity or Legal Separation Actions;
- Visitation issues;
- Custody issues;
- Property issues;
- Paternity actions;
- Grandparent issues;
- Guardianship issues;
- Contempt (on non child support issues);
- Restraining Orders;
- Domestic Violence actions;
- Prepare Judgments/Order After Hearing;
- Prepare Wage Assignments;
- Probate actions;
- Juvenile actions;
- Name Change;
- Assist with filing Income Tax Returns;
- Serve other party with papers;
- Subpoenas;
- Mediation.
The Facilitators do not give legal advice nor do they represent a particular party in any action. There is no confidentiality nor attorney client relationship created or intended between the staff and a party.
The office does not provide assistance over the telephone. However, out of state or out of county callers may leave their name, address, telephone number, Orange County Superior Court case number and a brief message on their issue, on our out of state line (714) 935-6568. A staff member will contact the caller if we are able to offer assistance with the child support issue.
The Office of the Family Law Facilitator does not charge for its services.
The following information explains the services we offer in greater detail:
- Workshops/Classes
- We assist:
- People involved with child support cases filed or being enforced by the Orange County Department of Child Support Services;
- People with arrearage or welfare reimbursement issues in an Orange County case.
- How: On your first visit your court file(s) will be ordered and you will be instructed on what documents you should bring with you to the workshop.
- Workshop Procedure:
- At 8:15 a.m., those who have been admitted into the workshop, are given a brief presentation on the Facilitator’s Office, court procedures, fees charged by the Clerk’s office, use of fee waivers, proof of service instructions, and the use of attorneys who provide low-cost legal services.
- Attendees are divided into groups and assisted by the attorneys and office staff in the preparation of their pleadings. Participants are expected to write their own declaration and provide appropriate documentation to support their requests.
- Workshops are conducted in English and Spanish everyday. For other languages, assistance by Court Interpreter Services is arranged.
- The office also offers special accommodations in compliance with ADA requirements.
- Office Hours and Location:
Check-in for the daily workshop is 7:30a.m. to 7:45a.m. on the first floor of the Lamoreaux Justice Center - Monday thru Thursday only. Length of time in the workshop depends on the number of attendees, the number of cases, and the complexity of issues. Plan to spend the entire day.
Fridays are reserved for our Answer and Response Clinic. We offer this clinic to assist self-represented persons with the preparation of their Answer to Governmental Complaints and their Response to Governmental Notice of Motion or Order to Show Cause. CHECK-IN ON FRIDAY IS AT 8:00a.m. ON THE 6TH FLOOR, ROOM C-611 OF THE LAMOREAUX JUSTICE CENTER.
The Facilitator's Office is open Monday through Friday.
Office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. (The office is closed from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.)
